CWA 1180’s private sector and nonprofit shops make up a small but mighty portion of our membership. Our members work as researchers, grant writers, veterinarians, radio producers, administrative employees and more, helping to make the world a better place. Private sector members can serve on 1180 committees, run for executive board, attend membership meetings, receive leadership training, and get involved with CWA’s political work. Most people come to work at a nonprofit because they believe in the organization’s mission. But that doesn’t mean you should have to accept unfair treatment. You and your coworkers’ solidarity ensures that you get the wages, benefits, and respect you need to do the important work you’re committed to. When we make the work at nonprofits more sustainable, we make the organizations themselves stronger. A committed, informed, active membership makes the Union strong. Make sure you know your rights and stay connected with your coworkers so you can win in the workplace and in the broader labor movement.
